everythingnothing was a chance meeting of minds. The result is a collaboration of musical tastes that present their vision clear as day—unbridled excitement and a sense of adventure.
In 1999, a chance meeting at a party one night in San Francisco, California changed the musical paths of Anthony Johnson (lead vocals, guitars) and Ian Bruce (keyboards, vocals). Together, they forged a collective musical vision—and it's a strong bond that continues to this day.
The duo spent endless evenings writing songs, ideas for songs, and generally goofing around in late 1999. Much to the chargrin of all around them, they locked themselves away but emerged three months later with 20 completed songs, 10 of which appeared on the band's first self-produced and released CD, clear, in 2000.
The next step was to form a band. They brought in well respected local musicians who were enthusiastic about the direction of the musical vision, and soon after everythingnothing began playing live shows in San Francisco and other parts of the Bay Area to build a fan base. They then hit the spring and summer festival circuits in 2000 and 2001.
At the end of 2001, Ian and Anthony went back into hiding to write what would eventually become the songs on the band's current release, choices. In summer 2002, the two went into the studio to begin recording the album, which took nearly a year to track and mix. Using a Power Mac, Digidesign Pro Tools, Emagic Logic, and a host of audio plug-ins, the two got an education in recording studio wizardry, but the album became a project that always required a little "something else."
After tracking all the parts, the pair eventually let the project go in early summer 2003, and handed it off to Matt Boudreau at Broken Radio studios to mix. Once Matt completed his work, the project was sent out for mastering to Michael Romanowski at Paul Stubblebine Mastering & DVD in the fall. On January 4, 2004, everythingnothing's second album, choices, a 12-song CD that contains this song, "Bleed," was finally released.
The current line-up also features Mark Hohman on bass and Dan Buch on drums and percussion. Compared stylistically to bands such as Travis, Coldplay, Live, and Neil Finn (among others), everythingnothing's sound is radio-friendly and has attracted interest from all over the world. If you're in California this Independence Day, everythingnothing will be appearing on the main stage at the annual Hollister Independence Rally Festival on July 4, courtesy of Primetime Entertainment (www.primetimeentertainment.com—the band gives special thanks to Jim Douglas!).
